Nasolabial & Marionette Folds by Dr Ruth Brady
Nasolabial folds are lines or folds which extend from the side of the nostril of the nose across towards the corner of the mouth. As the youthful curve of the cheeks start to disappear and the projection is lost, the skin starts to slump in this area and the naso-labial shadow turns into a deeper fold and the skin may also crease into a permanent line. Dermal fillers are used to lift out the soft tissues of this area to produce more support and diminish the shadow created by the deeper fold.
Marionette folds are shadows that start to appear in a person’s late 40s and early 50s, which often develop into folds. Fat from the lower cheeks drapes forwards across a relatively straight line either side of the chin. Fine lines and deeper permanent creases also start radiating from these folds. Dr Ruth can treat this area with dermal fillers using her signature ‘buttering’ technique, without causing any bruising. However, the treatment may involve several different procedures depending on the severity of the folds since the causes of why these folds appear are quite complex and multifactorial.
